Song of the Paratrooper, The
DESCRIPTION: "In Henry's day the battle fray Was fought with pike and long bow, And victory was won by be Who drew the stoutest strong bow. I'll start my fight with a harness tight, And a chute packed neat and sure, And jump... Through an aircraft aperture."

NOTES [84 words]: Ward-Jackson/Lucas-AirmansSongBook lists the tune of this as "The Jolly Miller," but I'm not sure which of the several songs of that title is meant.
As a piece of poetry, this is fairly impressive -- all those internal rhymes!
The reference to "Henry's day" is, I assume, to Henry V (reigned 1413-1422), the victory at the Battle of Agincourt and the English king who almost conquered France. For (vastly) more information about him, see the notes to "King Henry Fifth's Conquest of France" [Child 164]. - RBW
