NOTES [56 words]: Sulaimaniyah is in the Kurdish region of Iraq, not too far from the border with Iran. Like most places in Iraq, it has a fairly bloody history in recent years -- and also in the 1920s and 1930s, as the British tried to control the area. Back then, the Kurds were the enemy of the western powers; that has of course been reversed since. - RBW
