Good Rhein Wine, The

NOTES [99 words]: Several internet sources attribute this to John Gay of Beggar's Opera fame, but none of them give details; this seems to be a typo that has propagated. The sheet music I've seen (published by F. P. Kinney) credits John GRAY, although it's not clear if he wrote words or music or both. It has Gernam as well as English words ("Der Gute Rhein Wein"); it's not clear which is original. And this sheet music seems to be newer than the version of the song in Walking-Down-Broadway-Songster, because it shows bottles labeled "1870" and "1866," and who would be offering a vintage from a future year? - RBW
