NOTES [72 words]: The Sackett/Koch-KansasFolklore version of this is from an autograph book kept by Elsie Conway, probably (based on the other items in that part of Sackett/Koch-KansasFolklore) from the 1890s. I can find no other trace of this exact version. But the first part is so similar to "The Herring Loves the Moonlight (The Dreg Song)," and the second half so commonplace, that I suspect it is traditional. I am indexing it on that basis. - RBW
