NOTES [94 words]: Greig/Duncan5: "It is unclear from the verse collected whether this is the broadside/music-hall song about the attempted elopement with the Daughter of the Babo or a version nearer to the bawdy song of the harlot of Jerusalem." I have to go by the chorus: "Oh oh Kafoozelum, the daughter of the Babo." - BS
People often cite the attribution of this to "S. Oxon." But "Oxon," especially if followed by a period, means "of Oxford." So I am confident that "S. Oxon." is not the name of the author; it means (someone) of Oxford -- probably "a student of Oxford." - RBW
