NOTES [74 words]: H. M. Wharton's War Songs and Poems of the Southern Confederacy (p. 188) gives the author's name as "Marie La Coste," rather than "de la Coste." Allsopp says it was *sung* by "Marie La Conte of Georgia." Edwin Wolf 2nd, American Song Sheets, Slip Ballads, and Political Broadsides 1850-1870, Library Company of Philadelphia, 1963, p. 146, lists a broadside, probably from the Civil War era, which credits it to Marie Ravenal de la Coste. - RBW
