NOTES [55 words]: Ernest Tubb wrote and first recorded his song in 1941 on Decca 5958 (Tony Russell, Country Music Records, 1921-1942 (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2008),p. 914).
The description is based on the Hurt version. The tune is close to Tubb's but Hurt reworks the Tubb title line and drops all else of the Tubb chorus and verses. - BS
