NOTES [137 words]: The name "Solomon Nathan" is interesting. The name "Nathan" appears many times in the Hebrew Bible, but in the New Testament it appears only in Luke 3:31, where Nathan is the son of David from whom Jesus is descended -- making him a rival to Solomon to be King of Israel. Most of the other uses of the name "Nathan" are of the prophet whose machinations led to the palace coup which put Solomon on the throne instead of the rightful heir Adonijah (for this story, see 1 Kings, chapter 1).
The warning here makes a little more sense if it is directed to "Nathaniel," not "Nathan." In John 1:45fff., Nathaniel is the man from Galilee who doubted that Jesus was the Messiah on the grounds that nothing good could come out of Nazareth. Jesus then calls and converts him. So he might have been on the downward road until then. - RBW
