This makes me think of Genesis, chapter 17-18, where God appears to Abram and Sarai, changes their names to Abraham and Sarah, makes the covenant of circumcision, and promises them a son. I may be reading more into the song than is actually there, but it's a Biblical instance of a change of name on what is treated as a happy day.
