As Jacob with Travel Was Weary One Day

DESCRIPTION: "As Jacob with travel was weary one day, At night on a stone for a pillow he lay," he sees a ladder going up to heaven. The ladder is tall. All should ascend. "Alleluia to Jesus, who died on the tree,
And has raised up a ladder of mercy for me"

NOTES [97 words]: Hymnary.org lists no author or source for this, but apparently found a printed version from c. 1850. The site claims it goes back to the eighteenth century. Since I can't verify any of this, however, I am forced to use Roberts/Agey-InThePine's version as the Earliest Date.
Most versions are listed as being to the tune of "Jacob's Ladder," though the Roberts/Agey-InThePine tune is not the "Jacob's Ladder" that I know.
Jacob's vision of the ladder to the heavens, with angels climbing it, is in Genesis 28:10-22. It should be noted, however, that Jacob himself did not climb it! - RBW
