NOTES [68 words]: I suspect this is a fragment of a popular song, but much internet searching has failed to reveal it. Probably it in not the first verse.
The tune in Peters-FolkSongsOutOfWisconsin is very strange, since it is said to have been sung by a single informant yet the musical notation shows two parts (and does not show how the words are aligned with the tune). It appears something important has been omitted. - RBW
