NOTES [71 words]: Is this about an actual person? There was a British lawyer Alfred Thomas "Tom" Denning, who later became Lord Denning. Born in 1899, he served in World War I, then became a lawyer and practiced during World War II. But he apparently wasn't an army lawyer, and it sounds as if he wouldn't have condoned divorce. And the first name is wrong anyway. Maybe James Denning was a real lawyer, but I couldn't find such a person. - RBW
