NOTES [65 words]: ASC = Army Service Corps, a logistical unit of the British Army. It is certainly true that some ASC members spent their careers behind the lines and in safety -- but many were truck drivers and the like who were frequently under fire and didn't even have the protection of a trench. So this is not entirely fair -- as another piece in Page-ForGawdsakeDontTakeMe, "Riposte," makes clear. - RBW
