NOTES [70 words]: According to the site michiganshipwrecks, org, the Chicora was a Lake Michigan steamship built in 1892 and lost in 1895 in a sudden storm. The site calls her loss "the single greatest mystery on Lake Michigan"; the wreck up to this time has not been found.
The site lists 23 crew members lost with the ship. Many of them were from Benton Harbor and St. Joseph, Michigan; those towns probably felt the loss significantly. - RBW
