NOTES [89 words]: Linscott-FolkSongsOfOldNewEngland describes this as a kissing game, and seems to link it to the "Green Grows the Laurel" family. In fact it seems to partake of many other songs ("Green Grow the Rushes," "Hop High Ladies," etc.), and the mix is complex enough that I gave it its own entry. Newell-GamesAndSongsOfAmericanChildren's text is some sort of ring game, much shorter, but since it's a singing game with a "Green grow the rushes" line, it seemed best to file it here. Roud seems to have a different set of song divisions. - RBW
