NOTES [111 words]: Although this doesn't seem to appear in any folk song collections, internet searches reveal quite a few cases of people singing it.
The version in the Supplemental Tradition, from John5918, is interesting because it permits of *two different* scatological endings, depending on which word is used for the rhyme. If the last line is considered to rhyme against "A pigeon had he," then the final word could start with a "p"; if the last line is considered to rhyme against "It flew home in the night," then the final word would be "sh.te." Or you could probably use it as a surprise line and say, "And when it came home It was covered in... feathers." (Or some such.) - RBW
