Lass o Gowrie, The

DESCRIPTION: The singer meets and proposes to Katie, "the finest flower That ever bloom'd in Gowrie." He says he has loved her since he first saw her in school and cares for nothing else in Gowrie. She agrees to marry, the old folks consent, and now she's Lady Gowrie.

Whitelaw marks his copy as "[Modern Version]"; his five verse version is, excluding some spelling and capitalization differences, the same as broadside Bodleain 2806 c.14(35) and Greig/Duncan5. These texts include a verse in which Kate hesitates, recalling that Nell was won by "Daft Will" and has dropped out of sight.
