DESCRIPTION: "Once there was a little boy" who was "fair and brave"; his father equipped him as a hunter. But the boy's friend Chinkapin had no horse and no hunter's clothes, but the first boy, nicknamed "Captain Beau," finds ways for them to hunt together

I would assume that the name "Chinkapin" is derived from the tree name "chinquapin." There is a fiddle tune by that name, but I have no idea if they are related; there seems to be no preserved tune for the "Chinkapin" text. - RBW
