NOTES [78 words]: From the little I can tell, Newfoundlanders think this a popular song on the island, but rarely bother taking it down. The fragments I've heard are very diverse; I rather suspect a rewrite somewhere along the line. But until I can find more version, I am stuck with speculation.
A mudcat thread mentions an attribution to Paul Emberly, but I can't verify that either. Emberly did sing it; there are two citations in the Memorial University of Newfoundland archives. - RBW
