NOTES [60 words]: Steve Roud lumps this with "Oh, Dear, What Can the Matter Be," of which it is clearly a parody, but I would consider it enough of a rewrite to call it its own song. I do feel as if there is one key verse missing from the handful of versions, though. Maybe something along the lines of how the singer keeps his eyes open and observes all sorts of things.... - RBW
