Camp of Israel, The

DESCRIPTION: "Altho' in woods and tents we dwell, Shout, shout O Camp of Israel!" "Though oppression's waves roll o'er us... We've a better day before us." Anything is better than "the cursed Gentile yoke." They hope to escape their persecutors

NOTES [58 words]: This seems to me to clearly be invoking Israel's time in the wilderness after the Exodus (which makes Brigham Young the equivalent of Moses). The comparison is interesting: In the Wandering in the Wilderness, every adult in Israel, except Caleb and Joshua, was said to have been killed. Surely not what the Mormons wanted as they headed for Zion! - RBW
