NOTES [106 words]: It's times like this we need keyword "illogic" and "pandering." Cohen notes the interesting fact that Carson J. Robison wrote this and Vernon Dalhart recorded it BEFORE the trial ended! Of course, the only thing the Scopes trial proved is that logic and facts don't always prevail in a court of law, so who needed the outcome?
In a fascinating footnote, the "B" side of the Charlie Oaks recording was "The Death of William Jennings Bryan." It is also interesting to note that, when Bryan ran for President in 1896, his opponent in the Scopes Trial, Clarence Darrow, was one of those who encouraged the Populist party to support him. - RBW
