NOTES [61 words]: Baring-Gould/Sheppard-SongsOfTheWest2ndEd seems to think that this is either a preface to, or an English version of, "The Gypsy Laddie" [Child 200], with which it is included. I am quite sure they are not related, and frankly doubt that this is traditional at all. Bronson puts it in an appendix to "The Gypsy Laddie," which is perhaps a reasonable compromise. - RBW
