NOTES [60 words]: Arnold-FolkSongsofAlabama reports these as two different songs -- and they do have different tunes, and even different time signatures. But they start with the same line, and have the same sort of feel; until and unless something shows up to distinguish them, I am lumping them. "Trotting" refers not to a means of locomotion but "trotting a baby to sleep." - RBW
