NOTES [80 words]: There is a curious lack of agreement about the melody of this song. I was surprised to find this song in the camp repertoire, because I recalled the range making it very difficult to sing. Wanting to check this, I started searching around for sheet music. There seems to be agreement that it was written in the key of B♭. But some list the range as an octave and a third, some as an octave and a fourth (and my remembered version is more than that). Make of that what you may. - RBW
