NOTES [62 words]: I don't know if anyone talks about Paul Simon's "alienation period" or the like, but this and "Sounds of Silence" seem to fit a strong theme of isolation. Indeed, this sounds almost like a definition of schizoid personality disorder, the mental condition marked by emotional blunting and lack of desire to know others. I wonder if Simon knew someone with those traits. - RBW
